Why Nests’n’Niches?

I needed a name that’s uniquely me. Something that, in a word or phrase, people can look at and see who God has made me to be. Something that can be the doorway to my own little nest, the corner in which I am to shine. Something that tells you my favorite color is blue and I love songbirds. Something that shows that even though I am just a shy, introverted, rather quiet girl, I do still have something to share. Because even though my life isn’t all that exciting, it’s still special because it’s the life God has purposed for me. I may not have a worldwide or national platform from which to speak, but I have a little corner to brighten, a niche in which God has given me my own story to write and share.

And from those thoughts came the name Nests’n’Niches. It signifies the nests that we create, our homes in which we spend so much time carefully crafting an atmosphere of peace (or at least thinking about creating that cozy-sounding home). Or, if we don’t have our own home yet (like me), we at least have a little niche that’s our own, a place we can make completely our own. For me, it was just my bed and maybe a desk for the longest time. Then I added a bookshelf, overflowing with my ever-growing collection of books. When I started working for my oldest sister (www.parlagrace.com), we had a little workshop on the property that Daddy let us use. When she moved out, it stayed “the shed,” and even though I still work in there, I was able to add my own personal touches and organization. My own small part in the room I share with sisters and the shed are my own little niches, and I’m always looking for ways to make them cozier, homier, and more “me.”

That’s what I want Nests’n’Niches to be. I want it to be a place where you can find things to help you grow into the special person God created you to be. I want it to be a place where you find things that inspire you, encourage you, and make you smile, whether it’s an inspirational thought, just a photo, or an item for your nest or niche.
